Toward the end of last year I focused on this particular combination of pigments, with its endless variations, which I called Thanis, after one of the Greek nymphs. I know nothing of her, beyond the fact that she was a water nymph, giving her certain healing and sustaining powers, and these are qualities I wish to invoke in the paintings.
